Okay, we have to admit to being a bit slack in updating our blog recently. In fact it’s safe to say that it’s been neglected for some time but there has been a blooming good reason this time. We’ve been hard at work setting up our first Milk and Honey Christmas Pop-up Shop, in High Street Arcade, Cardiff.

After many weeks of hard work, the doors to our little gem in the heart of Cardiff’s Victorian Market area were opened to the public on Saturday, 2nd October. “Joie de Vivre Boutique” is home to 8 concessions (one being us of course) selling a range of chic, vintage and eco-friendly items that you simply won’t find in your standard high street chain store.

Milk and Honey Pop Up Shop in High Street Arcade Cardiff

The Milk and Honey concession can be found on the first floor and it sells everything you can find on our website. If you want to feel our silky soft cotton satin bed linen, or test each room diffuser before choosing the right scent then this really is the place to come. Not only will you have a hands on experience of all our goodies, on Wednesday’s and Fridays you’ll also be able to meet me face to face and chat about all things Milk and Honey. As it’s the run up to Christmas, we’ll be offering gift boxes to suit all budgets and of course gift wrapping for those special presents.

The boutique is open Monday – Saturday, and in the coming weeks will be opening on Sunday’s too so there really is no excuse not to pop in and say hi!

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Patagonia is the gourmet restaurant in Cardiff! Fine cuisine and clever subtle marriages of flavours leave your taste buds in pure heaven.

We absolutely love this family run restaurant. Not only is the cuisine refined and delicious (Ox Cheek and Beetroot terrine, anyone?) but their attention to detail, discretion and professionalism is second to none. We had such a great time in this little oasis, we’ll be going back again that’s for sure!

St David’s 2 – Cardiff’s Credit Crunch Saviour?

With all this talk of financial doom and the credit crunch, it’s nice to hear some positive retail news for a change. If you don’t know, Milk and Honey is based in Cardiff and the talk of the town for the last few years has been the redevelopment of it’s shopping area, which is now in it’s last stages of development before its launch in Autumn 2009.

St David’s 2 (which makes a change from “Millennium xxxxx” as most new projects have been named in Cardiff) has been many years in the planning. Since it’s conception at the beginning of the 2002 there have been numerous issues (location, impact on public transport and spiralling costs) that have delayed the project and subsequently shunted the launch date into the most uncertain financial period this country has experienced in my lifetime.
It’s easy to look at it with the benefit on hindsight and wonder why a city of Cardiff’s modest size (circa 320k inhabitants) needs a further 967,500 sq ft of retail space hosting up to 128 stores when the city is already in the top 10 shopping destinations in the UK and has a travel infrastructure barely capable of supporting it’s own citizens let alone the further hundreds of thousands the city attracts from surrounding areas on Weekends.
However, I think the timing could not have been more appropriate. In these desperate financial times the City is guaranteed to create 4,500 new jobs to support this project. Jobs have ranged from architecture and construction in the development stages to retail assistants and security when the site is opened. New parking zones and roads are popping up all over the City in the knowledge that such a big project is going to bring a massive amount of consumers to the City which will also have a knock on effect on tourism and leisure activities in Cardiff.
Of course, the main focus will be the shopping experience. St David’s 2  has attracted huge retailers such as John Lewis and many top brands including Reiss, Kurt Geiger and Hugo Boss – something the likes of Cardiff has never seen before. It is estimated that the introduction of these new shops will boost our shopping destination ranking into the top 5 along side London, Manchester and Birmingham which is no mean feat considering Cardiff’s location and size. Add to this the fantastic waterfront development and international airport, things are set to go from strength to strength.
Some may argue against the “spend our way out of the crisis” approach the Government has taken to tackle the credit crunch and when you look at St David’s 2 it’s very easy to see it as a perfect example of where we are going wrong. But look a little deeper and you may find that this is the very tonic needed to bring skills, jobs and wealth back to our struggling nation.

At last a different from the High Street Fashion Boutique

I am one of these women that are truly fed up with the High street names that you can find in each city you go in the UK and that at each corner of a street you can see your clone wearing the same piece of clothes and feel so disappointed to be like everyone! I feel that my dressing sense and style is quite unique therefore I would love to find something a little different of course in the essence of what is fashionable but with my twist.
Well I have found it! There is a wonderful new ladies boutique called Rouge in refined Morgan Arcade Cardiff. This shop is simply amazing if you are looking for stylish yet comfortable and wearable timeless pieces of clothes but at a sensible price.

Frederique the Parisian owner and her daughter Sophie will make you feel straight away very welcome. They are helpful and will give you a genuine advice if you need it however discreet and subtle if you are just browsing. Magic!
Their beautiful selection oozes of effortless style and individuality. They stock amongst many others the Dublin label Avoca renaissance, the Parisians brands Des petits hauts and American Vintage and Danish collection Lysgaard.

If you don’t leave near Cardiff, no worries, go on their website, choose what you like and simply order it on the phone. Frederique or Sophie will love to make you happy!

New Allotment

Although my big passion is interiors, never let it be said that I neglect exteriors at their expense.

I dont have the biggest garden in the world, however I lovingly care for it but recently have found the lack space a bit of an issue. A friend of mine mentioned that she may be getting her hands on an allotment in Cardiff and wondered if I would be interested in sharing it with her. I jumped at the chance!

Well, last week I found out I was the proud owner of half an allotment in Llandaff Fields and today I will be visiting it for the first time.

My garden at home is mainly decorative, so now I will have the opportunity to grow my own fruit and veg at a fraction of the cost from supermarkets. OK, I’ll have to put some time and energy into looking after it, but what could be more satisfying than tucking into your own lettuce, carrots or radish?

The Olive Tree Restaurant

The Olive Tree is a wonderful restaurant if you come to Cardiff – it is well worth a visit and of course dinner! It feels like having a gastro meal in one of these lovely Parisian gourmet restaurants. I was heaven last night…
The Olive Tree has a warm relaxed atmosphere, with an excellent service. Staff are professional and friendly however discreet with an attention for detail that adds a little something special to the experience.
The food is refined and the researched flavours are cleverly mixed and incredibly well balanced. It is a magic restaurant for “gourmands” eaters. We had a fantastic dinner there last night, very original and unique, definitely one of my favourite restaurants around here.
